Ally Invest $3,000 Promotion (Expired)

Would you like to make some easy money? Ally Invest has an answer for you. Just open and fund a new self-directed account with the brokerage firm, and you could be handsomely rewarded. Here’s everything you need to do from start to finish:

Step 1: Open a New Self-Directed Account with Ally Invest

The first thing you need to do is open a new brokerage account with Ally Invest. To do this, simply head over to the Ally Invest page with the bonus ad and click on the Open Account button. Be sure to open a self-directed account and not a managed account. The cash bonus offer is valid only for self-directed accounts.

Step 2: Fund the New Account With at Least $10,000

Ally’s cash bonus special is on a stepped scale, which means the more you deposit or transfer into the new account, the larger your cash bonus will be. The minimum deposit or transfer is $10,000, and this amount will earn you a $100 prize. It does take a $2 million contribution to get the $3,000 bonus. Here is the complete ladder:

PrizeMinimum transfer/deposit
$3,000 $2 MM+
$2,000 $1MM - $1.99MM
$1,200 $500k - $999.9k
$600 $250k - $499.9k
$300 $100k - $249.9k
$250 $25k - $99.9k
$100 $10k - $24.9k

The required funding can be made with either a deposit of new money or a transfer of securities. With the former option, Ally Invest accepts both ACH and wire transfers.

For the latter option, Ally Invest participates in the ACAT network. You can make a transfer request inside the Ally Invest website (click on My Accounts -> Transfer Funds -> Transfer an Account and follow the prompts).

With either option, the required funding must be received within 60 days of account opening. Ally Invest promises to credit the cash bonus within 10 days of receiving the required funds.

Step 3: Maintain the Account for at Least 300 Days

Ally Invest requires the bonus and qualifying deposit to remain in the new account for 300 days. If you withdraw either one, Ally Invest has the right to debit the account for the amount of the bonus. Trading losses are not considered withdrawals.

Ally IRA Promotion Fine Print

Only U.S. residents are eligible for this special. Ally Invest excludes current Ally Invest customers from the offer. Former Ally Invest clients who closed their accounts more than 90 days ago are eligible.

Any cash bonus received will be reported on Form 1099 at the end of the year.

One More Ally Invest Bonus

If you opt for an account transfer to satisfy Ally’s minimum deposit requirement and incur an ACAT fee at your old firm, Ally will refund the fee. There is a $75 maximum on this special, and Ally requires a minimum transfer of $2,500.

Ally Invest ACH Withdrawal Terms

If you need to get money out of a brokerage account with Ally Invest, there are several methods you can use.

The stockbroker has an easy-to-use website form that appears on the ‘Account Summary’ tab directly below the ‘My Accounts’ tab. Clicking on these will produce a balance section, which displays how much can be moved out of a trading account. Next to the balances section is a smaller area that says ‘Transfer Money.’

Here both deposits and withdrawals can be initiated. An external bank account must already be on file with Ally Invest. It can be either a checking or a savings account. An Ally Bank account can be linked as well.

Withdrawing money through this method is free.

How to Withdraw Money From Ally Invest

Ally Invest Money Withdrawal By Check

A paper check can be sent to your address on file. There is a $5 charge for using this method. To locate the on-line form, simply go to ‘My Accounts’ and then click on ‘Transfer Funds.’ To the right of this selection will appear a few choices. Click on ‘Withdraw Funds.’ Next a page will appear with several cash management choices. Under ‘Transfer Money’ click on ‘By Check,’ and then choose the link that says, ‘I want to withdraw money from my Ally Invest account.’ Finally, the appropriate form will appear with your address pre-filled.

Ally Invest Wire Transfer Funds

Funds can also be wired out of an Ally Invest account. The appropriate link is found on the same page where the paper check was requested. Under ‘Transfer Money’ just select ‘By Wire’ instead of ‘By Check.’ Here, a wire authorization form will be found in pdf format. This document must be filled out and submitted to the broker. It can be sent using an internal upload tool. Alternatively, you can send it via snail mail, fax, or take a picture of it and email it as an attachment.

At Ally Invest, there is a $30 charge for outgoing domestic wires and a $50 fee for foreign wires.

Ally Invest ACAT Withdrawal

Instead of just moving a cash position, you could transfer an entire account to another broker. Ally Invest accounts can be moved in whole or in part using ACAT service. The broker-dealer charges $50 for a whole or partial transfer.

Ally Invest Money Transfer By Debit Card or Checkwriting

Checks and a debit card can be added to an Ally Invest trading account, and these tools could be used to withdraw funds. Using this method might actually be easier than the other choices listed here. However, the brokerage firm requires a staggering $100,000 to add these banking features. If you have this much sitting in your securities account, Ally will charge $35 per year for the ATM card, $5 for every check posted, and a $20 annual fee for checkwriting privileges. There is also a $1 charge for each cash machine withdrawal. The broker does not refund any ATM fees.
