How to Transfer a Fidelity Account to Firstrade

If you’re tired of paying commissions on each and every mutual fund or option trade you make at Fidelity, you can move your account to Firstrade, who offers $0 commissions on stocks, options, ETF’s, and mutual funds. The transfer process is quite easy if you follow our instructions.

Phase 1

Look at the potential costs of transferring an account from Fidelity to Firstrade. Fidelity is one of the few brokerage houses in the industry not to have an ACAT fee for either full or partial transfers. So you’re in luck here. If it did, Firstrade currently has a promotion to refund any fees, up to $200, you incur to transfer your account.

Phase 2

Open an account at Firstrade. When you’re ready to make the switch, the first step is to open an account at Firstrade. The name you list on the account will need to be the same name on your Fidelity account. The two accounts will also need to be of the same type (such as Roth IRA, joint account, or trust).

Phase 3

Request an ACAT transfer at Firstrade. With your Firstrade account up and running, now it’s time to submit a request to move your Fidelity account. To do this, you’ll want to make the request at Firstrade. There’s nothing you need to do at Fidelity. Login to your new Firstrade account and click on the ‘Customer Service’ tab in the upper-right portion of the menu. In the lower menu that appears, click on ‘Fund Your Account.’ Firstrade’s website will now present several options to move assets into your account. Available choices include wire service and ACH transfers. Click on the option that says, ‘Transfer an Account from another Financial Institution.’
