Stash Minimum Deposit for Brokerage Accounts

Although Stash has some pretty user-friendly investment accounts, the brokerage firm does have minimums in some cases. To get the full scoop, keep reading.

Stash has both self-directed and robo accounts. The former account type has no minimum deposit amount for taxable accounts. Self-directed custodial accounts do have a $1 minimum deposit requirement. So do self-directed IRAs.

Automated accounts at Stash Invest require only $5 deposit to get started.

Stash Minimum Deposit for Bank Accounts

While there is no minimum deposit requirement to open a Stash bank account, there is a $1 minimum deposit amount to activate the Stash debit card (officially called the Stock-Back® Card). Without this deposit, the debit card won’t work. It’s pretty important for this card to be activated as it can earn fractions of stocks while shopping with the relevant companies who participate in Stash’s stock-back program.

Stash Minimum Account Value for Margin Trading

Stash doesn’t offer margin accounts at this time.

Stash Minimum Trade Amount

Trades for stocks and ETFs inside self-directed accounts at Stash are placed in dollar amounts instead of share amounts. There are three purchase amounts listed on the order ticket ($5, $10, and $25), although any amount starting at $0.01 can be entered. Securities priced above $1,000 have a $0.05 trade minimum.

Stash does not offer any other investment vehicles, so there are no trade minimums to report on for mutual funds or other instruments.

Stash Minimum Hold Time

Stash is not intended for day trading. As such, it does not provide trading during the entire market session. Instead, it uses four trading windows per day. This does allow for the possibility of day trading, which means a stock or ETF could be held less than a full market day.

Stash Minimum Fee

Stash Minimum Monthly Fee

Stash charges either $3 per month or $9 per month, depending on the subscription plan chosen. The more expensive plan comes with custodial accounts.

Minimum Age to Open an Account

Stash customers must be at least 18 years of age. A custodial account could be opened by a legal adult on behalf of a minor.

Stash Minimum System Requirements

Because Stash is a hands-off, user-friendly kind of broker, it does not have a desktop platform or even an advanced website. The site is very simple and should work on any modern browser.

Mobile traders do need to be sure to update to the latest operating system, which will be with either Android or Apple.

Android users need to use 7.0 and up. The Apple app has a minimum iOS of 13.0 for iPhone and iPod touch. The app is not intended for iPad. It can run on Macs with macOS 11.0 or later and an Apple M1 chip or later.
