Neither J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing nor J.P. Morgan Automated Investing has a minimum balance requirement.
JP Morgan Chase Account Minimum
Any amount can be kept in a J.P. Morgan Investing account. The brokerage house does not have an on-going account minimum.
JP Morgan Chase Minimum System Requirements
J.P. Morgan Investing does not have an advanced software platform. Therefore, there are no operating system minimums to mention for a desktop platform.
The latest version of any web browser should be used to access the website, however. The broker’s website is designed for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Here are the minimum browser versions:
Safari 12.0 and higher
Chrome 72.0 and higher
Firefox 76.0 and higher
Microsoft Edge 16.0 and higher
Cookies should be enabled in all of these browsers when using the J.P. Morgan Investing site. Also, the browser should support encryption for the highest safety level. The broker’s website is not designed for beta versions of browsers.
J.P. Morgan Investing does have minimum operating system recommendations for the browser programs. They are:
Mac OS Yosemite (version 10.10 and higher)
Windows 7 and higher
The second and final trading platform J.P. Morgan Investing offers is its mobile app (which also happens to be the Chase Bank app). It, too, has operating system minimums. The Android app requires Android 8.0 and up. The Apple app requires a minimum of iOS 13.0. This is true for both phone and tablet systems.
JP Morgan Chase Minimum Trade Amount
For stock and ETF trades, J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing does not offer fractional-share purchases. Therefore, the minimum trade amount is one share.
There is no minimum commission on these trades because they are free.
Minimum Purchase Amount for Mutual Funds
J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Trading offers a few thousand mutual funds from a variety of fund families. During our investigation, we found funds with a minimum purchase amount of $3,000. Other funds have no minimum purchase amount, while still others are somewhere between these two extremes. It is the fund family and not J.P. Morgan Investing that sets these minimums.

Minimum Bond Commission
The minimum bond commission on secondary market trades is $10 per trade. Although only $1 is charged per bond, the minimum commission is $10. Thus, the best value is a trade of at least 10 bonds.
